London, March 13 (Xinhua) -- The 2025 London Book Fair will be held from the 11th to the 13th at the Olympia Exhibition Center in London. Chinese publishers will make a collective appearance and a series of high-quality books will be exhibited for the first time, promoting mutual learning among civilizations through the concept of "books as bridges".

Over 4000 books' Explaining China to the World '

The London Book Fair, founded in 1971, is one of the most important events in the global publishing industry. During this year's book fair, the signs in the Chinese exhibition area with the words "Explain China to the World" were particularly prominent. The total exhibition area of China was 618 square meters, with more than 50 publishing and distribution institutions, book import and export companies participating, more than 4000 books exhibited, and more than 40 events held, attracting the attention of a large number of publishing professionals and readers from various countries.

Among them, the exhibited books mainly include representative works that explain China's governing philosophy and reflect the latest achievements in contemporary Chinese economic, social development, academic research, and literary creation. Books such as "Towards Revitalization and Prosperity: Modernization of Great Power Governance," "The Power of Time," "The World Significance of China's Economic Development," and "Making Data a Productivity - Data Lifecycle Management" were released to promote Chinese ideas and convey Chinese voices.

Assist in the exchange and mutual learning of Eastern and Western civilizations

In recent years, classical studies have sparked a research boom worldwide. At the book fair, the Commercial Press held an exchange conference on classical studies research and publishing, as well as a press conference on the publication results of "Chinese Translation of World Academic Classics". Taylor Francis Publishing Group's President of Global Book Business, Bill Berry, stated that with the increasing frequency of global academic exchanges, classical studies research and publishing need to pay more attention to cross-cultural dialogue and cooperation.

Supported by the Zhejiang Literature Museum, Suichang County Tang Xianzu Memorial Hall, Zhejiang University Chinese Translation Studies Museum, and other institutions, the theme exhibition "Symphony of Love and Dreams - Tang Xianzu and Shakespeare" was also unveiled simultaneously at this book fair. The exhibition focuses on the English translation of Shakespeare's poetic style "The Peony Pavilion" and the Chinese translation of "Romeo and Juliet" as the core clues. Through graphic display boards, precious manuscripts, multimedia images and other forms, it presents the profound insights of the two theater masters into human nature and the eternal praise of love. The aim is to showcase the profound significance of mutual learning between Eastern and Western civilizations through the integration of drama classics and translation art.

Join hands to welcome the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti Fascist War

To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Anti Japanese War and the World Anti Fascist War, during this book fair, Zhongtu Company held a screening of the movie "The Sinking of the Lisbon Maru" and a media exchange meeting. Chinese Ambassador to the UK, Bi Haibo, expressed the hope that the families of survivors of the Lisbon Maru and people from all walks of life will take active action, remember history, safeguard friendship, build more bridges of friendly exchanges, and make new contributions to the stable and far-reaching development of China UK relations.

In addition, People's Publishing House, together with the British Chinese Understanding Association and Zhongtu Company, held a new book launch event for the Chinese version of "Original Grass: The Story of George Hooke". The hero of the book, British journalist George Hogg, gave his life to support the Chinese people in the war of resistance. The book includes multiple letters and reports from He Ke, comprehensively recording and presenting his life experience of traveling to many parts of China and actively supporting China's resistance against Japan.

"The UK and China should take an important time node as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation and continue to pass on the story of friendship between the British and Chinese people," said Dai Hugo, director of the China Media Center at Goldsmith College, University of London.
