Peng Liyuan Visit the headquarters of UNESCO and meet Director-General Azoulay

On the morning of May 6, Ms. Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China and UNESCO Special Envoy for the Advancement of Girls' and Women's Education, visited the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris at the organization’s invitation.

Upon her arrival, Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, warmly greeted her at the entrance. Azoulay accompanied Peng Liyuan on a tour of the Exhibition of Achievements in China-UNESCO Cooperation over the Past Decade, and spoke highly of China’s contribution to advancing the global cause of girls’ and women’s education.

During her meeting with Azoulay, Peng Liyuan briefly shared the latest progress China has made in promoting girls’ and women’s education, particularly the achievements of the Chunlei Program. She stated, “Over the past decade as UNESCO Special Envoy for the Advancement of Girls' and Women's Education, I have visited schools in many countries. I am delighted to see that more and more women have changed their destinies and are living happy lives through education. Promoting girls’ and women’s education is a great cause that bears on social progress and the shared future of humanity. China stands ready to work with UNESCO to encourage all parties to increase investment in global girls’ and women’s education, help more women gain equal access to education, and jointly build a better future.”

Azoulay spoke highly of the work and contributions made by Peng Liyuan during her tenure as Special Envoy, noting that UNESCO is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China to drive new progress in the global cause of girls’ and women’s education.

Azoulay presented Peng Liyuan with a certificate of honor marking the 10th anniversary of her tenure as Special Envoy. In return, Peng Liyuan donated to UNESCO the tapestry “Chunlei Huakai (Spring Buds Blossom)”, co-created by the beneficiaries of the Chunlei Program.
